New York Part 2

Apologies about the super delayed post. I started blogging after I got my Macbook but I had to use my phone as a hotspot and the internet was horribly slow for photo uploading so I gave up half way. Anyway, here's a continuation of what I did in NY. Just a warning that it isn't all that exciting to read.

13th of December:
Caught the subway to an area called SoHo to buy a pair of Chelsea Crew wedges from Shoegasm and then shopped around in Top Shop. I've actually been wanting the shoes for a while and was thinking about getting them online from Lulus but I never did. I was happy to see that they were on sale too, so that was a win! HSC results were released this day and it was so frustrating to use super slow internet on my phone. I think i had a pretty neutral reaction after looking at my results but a tiny bit of me was disappointed when I heard about other peoples' results. Anyway, regardless of my marks, I was actually quite satisfied with the numbers that appeared on the ATAR calculators I tried.

14th of December:
This was a lazy day. I just stayed home and waited around for the release of our ATARs. Surprisingly the calculator was off by only a tiny bit. To be honest I was expecting myself to get lower than what I did end up getting so it's good that I wasn't let down. As some of you may already know, I've had my mind set on doing Commerce for a while now but my brother doesn't think that it's that great of an idea. He wants me to do Optometry and frankly, I think that'd be quite nice and I wouldn't actually mind, but unfortunately my marks aren't high enough for that. Plus, I didn't do any Sciences nor did i do UMAT. Well now he hasn't said anything about me doing Commerce but he keeps telling me to go to USYD instead of UNSW because "it sucks and it's so far"(he went there himself).

15th of December:
Went to Central Park zoo with my cousin (mainly because I wanted to see the polar bear). The zoo itself was pretty small (as expected) and there was actually only one polar bear (this i didn't expect!). To my disappointment it was being lazy and was sleeping on a rock. I really wanted to see it move around so I went back later on in hopes that it had woken up and found it sleeping again, but in another spot grrr. I did snap some nice photos of the other animals though, which made me happy. I don't know why but it really makes me happy when the photos i take turn out nice. It's so satisfying hehe. Too bad the weather was rather gloomy.

Just realised that my camera focused on the branches instead

16th of December:
Woke up super early for a two days, one night trip to Washington DC. I didn't exactly want to go because there are only political and historical sites to see, and it reminds me of going to Canberra to see Parliament House. In the end I went for the sake of it. I can't stand long bus rides and as expected. the ride there was h o r r i b l e. I can't sleep sitting upright and It slipped my mind to bring the neck pillow I had recently bought, so i basically just stared out the the window the whole time. There's something about coaches that makes me feel so uncomfortably sick. Even normal buses are better. It was superrrrrr cold in DC i thought my hands were going to freeze off. We visited a few memorials but didn't go inside the White House. I remember the tour guide saying that you aren't allowed inside any more but what the heck, i just googled it and you are. It wasn't all that fun to be honest, but I was pretty intrigued by the designs of the memorials. They were reminiscent of ancient Greek temples.

Please excuse the fact that I'm always wearing the same coat haha. I only brought one with me so it wouldn't hog all my luggage space and didn't really want to buy any whilst I was there because it's not that cold back in Sydney.

17th of December:
We visited the U.S Capitol and I absolutely loved the ceiling of one of the rooms. That was basically the only fun i had, appreciating the architecture haha. I guess the Air and Space Museum we went to was okay too, but one gets a little bored after looking at so many planes. We drove through some forests and wow, the houses there were hugeeee. Personally I wouldn't ever want to live in such an isolated area but I wouldn't mind having a holiday house there hehe. Though i'd be quite scared if some wild animal popped out from behind a tree or something. Plus, it must be scary during the other seasons when the trees are filled with leaves and you can't see through them. The ride home was twice as horrendous as the ride there because there was so much traffic near Jersey City and by the time we got back to NY, I just wanted to go home and sleep.

18th of December:
Slept in because I was so exhausted and then walked to Manhattan Mall to return a pair of boots i got because I decided that I probably wouldn't wear them much back in Aus because it's not cold enough. I went and bought a pair of cream coloured peep toe heels instead hehe.

19th of December:
Had a nice day shopping around Nine West, Urban Outfitters, J-Crew and Anthropologie. I couldn't find any clothes to buy but i did get two books ("Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass" and "Anne of Green Gables") from Anthropologie because they were only $10 each. I also got a nice, antique-looking magnifying glass. I think I'm a little bit weird for wanting a magnifying glass. Just a little hehe.

20th of December:
Sight seeing day! I was originally planning on going to the Statue of Liberty, 9/11 Memorial and Brooklyn Bridge but ran out of time so i left Brooklyn Bridge for another day. We had to catch a ferry to Libery Island and the line was so longggg. We also had to go through security before boarding the ferry. Unfortunately the sun was playing hide and seek so my photos aren't as great. It did come out a little later on in the day but I was already boarding the ferry to Ellis Island by that time. I hate when the weather isn't nice for photos! The line for the 9/11 memorial was a hundred times worse. First you have to get a pass and wait until the specified time. After that you have to line up to go in (which takes forever) and once again you're required to go through security. It was interesting to see the construction of the new buildings  but overall, it was a very sad place. I saw people getting their photos taken and it just didn't seem right to me, for people to be taking photos of themselves smiling at the memorial of such a tragic incident. It really doesn't feel right to me.
